Two Artists, One Vision: “Wild Like the Wind”

The music video for “Wild Like the Wind” was entirely created by Lua & Rafael, from music to visuals. Shot on an iPhone 13 Pro with almost no budget, it was filmed at the singer’s home and around São Paulo, Brazil. Released in December 2024, it’s a showcase of creativity, passion, and resourcefulness.

1. Could you tell us more about the idea behind creating this music video? What led you to this decision, and how did you think about the processes of making it?

(Lua) - The idea was to try to make an interesting video with a slightly lean and raw vibe because we felt from the beginning that it would reflect the sense of vulnerability that the music and lyrics were leaning towards. And the dark aesthetics came as a consequence of that too. All the ideas came out naturally, very much based on the sensations and images we felt listening to the song.

(Rafael) - We also like to improvise a lot when doing music videos, so I think naturally the ideas were coming of what was possible to do at that time and what was inspiring us.

2. What inspired the song “Wild Like the Wind” and how did the creative process between you two start?

(Lua) - Wild Like the Wind was written in a difficult moment, and it is a song about the anguish of feeling stuck, fragile, unstable, and vulnerable. It is about the feeling of not belonging anywhere and feeling the weight of everyday life on your shoulders. About feeling overwhelmed by the world and at the same time disconnected from yourself. The song started from this idea and we had some different versions along the way.

(Rafael) - Yeah, it was a song written in a not so great time for us but we always leaned towards music and creation to help us get through difficult times and this song was something special that came from that time.

3. What were the biggest challenges you faced while producing the music video independently

(Lua) - Producing a music video independently holds the challenge of being able to record the ideas we have and make them come to life without a big budget, a big team, and lots of equipment. And as a team of two, it is a challenge to come up with ideas that we both love and that can be done in a team of only two.

(Rafael) - Getting everything done with the things we have at our disposal at the moment. At the time of shooting we usually have a lot of fun, and we like to try everything. In this video I think the biggest challenge was editing, which took a little time…

4. How do you see the relationship between music and visual storytelling in your work?

(Lua) - I am a very visual person, and I love cinema, theater, and visual arts in general. So for me, making videos for my songs is crucial for expressing the song's vibe and message. It feels like the song only gets really complete with a video. The visuals are a big part of the story.

(Rafael) - Me too, I always loved cinema, and I even have worked some years making soundtracks for movies. I think the video is an essential part of what we do, It’s what makes the music complete. We like to think of music and video always together as a whole. Even when we are working on the song we like to think ahead of what the video should look like.

5. As independent artists, what message would you like to send to other creators who want to produce with limited resources?

(Lua) - One lesson I've learned is to take initiative and get the work done by yourself if you can't get anyone else to join you. Even if you don't really know how, just get started and things will work out for the best if you keep trying and work hard. The key is to never give up and keep pushing.

(Rafael) - Grab what you can, a phone, a budget camera and just do it…thats the fun part! Don’t be discouraged by what people tell you, or don’t tell you for what matters. And pay special attention to lighting, I think that’s a secret. We used to make our own lighting with cardboard and house lamps. Good lighting can make a budget camera shine in my opinion.

6. What are your future artistic plans after “Wild Like the Wind”?

(Lua) - Well, I think I’m more than ever in my music video era! So to be honest, I’m planning to work on some new songs and music videos!

(Rafael) - More songs coming, and more videos! Definitely our video era.
